Abstract

SMA Negeri 8 Pontianak has applied the principles of life skill in biology subject, however the result are still not optimal. A method new method is needed in order to develop the life skill, one of the method is problem based learning (PBL). The purpose of this study is to describe general life skill of class XI students in muscoskeletal system material. This study used descriptive method with qualitative approach. The datas were collected from questionnare, documentation, dan observation. The result of the study shows that the general life skill of students in XI Lina (lintas minat) class is categorized as good with percentage of 70%. The general life skill of students which appeared in the PBL are spiritual skill in the form of self appreciation as the creature of God by 82%, potential skill in form of awareness of owned strength and confidence by 68%, thinking skill in form of the skill to dig, find, process information and make decision by 659%, communication skill in form of listening, speaking, reading, and writing by 68%, and cooperative skill in form of taking responsibility by 73%. It can be concluded that general life skills achieved by students after being taught with PBL method are students the favors that have been given, students realize their strengths and physical weaknesses, students can think to overcome problems given, and students communicate and work together.
