Abstract

Early Breastfeeding Initiation is an Indonesian government program, but especially Sintang district initiation of early breastfeeding has not been done. From data obtained at RSUD Ade M. Djoen Sintang, the number of mothers in 2016 as many as 1109 mothers only 48.7% who initiated early breastfeeding. This study aims to determine the factors associated with maternal interest in initiating breastfeeding early in RSUD Ade M. Djoen Sintang. The type of research used is an analytic survey with cross sectional study design study. The research was conducted in May 2017 with maternity population is 1187 persons. The sample is 82 respondents. The instrument used is a questionnaire. Data analysis with chi square. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between parity p value = 0,045 (p <0,05), education p value = 0,00 (p <0,05) and family support p value = 0,035 (p <0,05) with maternal interest in initiating early breastfeeding at RSUD Ade M. Djoen Sintang. It is suggested to mother to be more active in finding information about initiation of breast feeding either through book or through other information media. For accompanying families or husbands, it is expected to be more attentive to mothers by looking for information on early breastfeeding initiation and providing support to mothers in initiating breastfeeding early, so that mothers feel cared for and more confident in performing IMD.
