Abstract

ABSTRACT This was descriptive study which aimed at finding out the learning outcomes of X MIPA students, SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak on chemistry which was observed from VARK (visual, aural, write-read, kinesthetic) learning model. The students of SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak had varied learning outcomes as well as different learning method and style. The learning style was important to be recognized by both teachers and students. The knowledge about the learning style can empower them to identify and to use the best learning technique which is appropriate for each student to produce satisfactory and effective material understanding. The instruments of this research were the questionnaire of learning style, observation sheet, interview guide and documentation sheet. According to the result of data analysis, it could be concluded that the tendency of students’ learning style was dominated by kinesthetic learning style for unimodal learning style which was 39.40 % and V-A-R-K learning style for multimodal learning style. On the ‘read/write’ learning style, there was suitability between the learning method and the learning style of the students.However, the result of students’ learning on read/write learning style was lower than other learning styles which was 63. The students with V-A-R-K learning style had the highest learning result of 76.84. It was because they were flexible on their learning method and could easily move from one type to another depending on the given learning condition. Key words : VARK learning style, multimodal, unimodal ABSTRAK Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif yang secara umum bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa kelas X MIPA SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak pada mata pelajaran kimia ditinjau dari gaya belajar model VARK (visual, aural, write-read, kinesthetic). Siswa SMA Negeri 1 Pontianak memiliki hasil belajar yang berfariasi serta cara dan gaya belajar yang berbeda-beda . Gaya belajar tersebut penting diketahui baik bagi guru maupun siswa. Pengetahuan tentang gaya belajarnya dapat memberdayakan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menggunakan tehnik belajar terbaik sesuai gaya belajar siswa masing-masing sehingga menghasilkan kepuasan pemahaman materi yang lebih baik dan efektif. Alat instrumen penelitian ini adalah angket gaya belajar, lembar observasi, pedoman wawancara dan lembar dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, diperoleh informasi bahwa kecenderungan gaya belajar siswa didominasi oleh gaya belajar kinestetik untuk gaya belajar unimodal yaitu 39,40% dan gaya belajar V-A-R-K untuk gaya belajar multimodal. Pada gaya belajar read/write terdapat kesesuaian antara cara belajar dan gaya belajar siswa, namun, hasil belajar siswa pada gaya belajar read/write paling rendah dibanding dengan tipe gaya belajar yang lain yaitu 63. Siswa dengan gaya belajar V-A-R-K memiliki hasil belajar yang paling tinggi yaitu 76,84, hal ini dikarenakan mereka fleksibel terhadap cara belajar dan dengan mudah beralih dari tipe ke tipe tergantung kondisi pembelajaran yang diberikan.
